This month’s featured program, “What’s the Buzz About?”, will be presented by Elissa Sexton, a beekeeper and licensed real estate professional who combines her passion for nature with a commitment to environmental stewardship. Elissa will share how beekeeping can be accessible and rewarding, offering insights into the vital role bees play in our ecosystem and how you can support pollinators at home.

The Barton Hills Garden Club invites neighbors and gardening enthusiasts to join us for our next meeting on Tuesday, April 28, from 9:00–11:00 AM at the Zilker Botanical Garden Auditorium.

Founded in 1960, the Barton Hills Garden Club is celebrating its 65th year of bringing neighbors together. The club’s mission is to provide a friendly, social forum for members while promoting the advancement of gardening and encouraging civic beautification throughout our community.

The Garden Club holds monthly meetings on the fourth Tuesday from September through May at 9:15 AM at Zilker Botanical Gardens.

This meeting is free and open to the public, and visitors are always welcome—no membership required to attend.

For those interested in becoming a member, annual dues are $35, and members receive a directory, brochure, and garden club card.

Rose pruning leads to healthier plants with more blooms, but it can be intimidating. We’ll demystify rose pruning through illustration and demonstration. Learn this unique method honed over 10 years that applies to virtually all varieties and sizes of roses.

Our speaker, Colleen Dieter, experienced her first encounter with the earth as a child when she dumped a bucket of sand on her brother’s head. Since then, Colleen has spent her time and energy cultivating an appreciation of the soil’s fertility, a practical understanding of the internal processes of plants, and a respect for the earth grounded in using organic methods.

Owner of Red Wheelbarrow Landscape Consulting, Colleen is a passionate and pragmatic horticulturalist. Colleen enjoys sharing her expertise while addressing each client’s specific needs. Her primary goals for every job are to establish a comfortable rapport with clients where they feel their voices are heard. She believes that our yards are an extension of our homes, and takes to heart her role to help increase each property’s value as well as enhance the client’s peace of mind.

All are invited and welcome to attend Tuesday, March 27. Our speaker will be Trisha Shirey, Director of Flora and Fauna at Lake Austin Spa Resort, who will stroll us just like a spa guest through the resort with images of the annual and perennial flowers, trees, and shrub displays. She will share her personal favorite plants for sun and shade and her secrets for growing them organically.

The meeting will be at the Zilker Botanical Center in Zilker Park on Barton Springs Road. The meet and greet will be at 9:30 am, the program starts at 10 am.
