It’s My Park Day Saturday March 5, 9 AM-Noon
Greenbelt Fans,
This year’s annual citywide It’s My Park Day event, sponsored by the Austin Parks Foundation, is scheduled for Saturday March 5. Our BHNA Greenbelt Guardians group will be participating again, working at both the Gus Fruh and Homedale entries to the Barton Creek Greenbelt. You can participate at the site of your choice, and we will provide skilled team leaders, tools, and tasks at each site.
At both sites we will be doing trail repairs and maintenance, continuing with our invasive plant removal activities, and doing some deadwood and brush rearranging to improve erosion management and discourage rogue trails. And as always, we will be picking up cans, bottles, and other trash.
Please RSVP here, and also register online at the Austin Parks Foundation’s It’s My Park! Day website at www.austinparks.org. Our events are listed as: Greenbelt Guardians: Homedale Entry at Barton Creek and Greenbelt Guardians: Gus Fruh Entry at Barton Creek. If you search by park name, they’re both under Barton Creek Greenbelt East.
NOTE: be sure to register online if you want a t-shirt!
The work day is from 9:00 – 12:00, and as usual we’ll start the morning off with some great breakfast tacos for energy before getting to work. At the end of the day, you’ll look with pride at your accomplishments. It’s always amazing what teamwork can do!
We’re hoping to see lots of veterans and lots of newcomers.

Greenbelt Guardian work opportunity Sat. Feb. 12
ANOTHER GREENBELT WORK OPPORTUNITY!
SAT., FEB. 12, 9-NOON, SPYGLASS ENTRY
Greenbelt Fans,
It might be hard to imagine now, with these icy winds blowing, but Saturday is predicted to be “clear and in the mid-60’s”. And there is an opportunity to continue the momentum in clearing dense stands of invasive Ligustrum and Nandina plants just upstream of the Spyglass Entry. Amazing progress has been made at several work days in the past few months in this area. We want to keep up the momentum right up to the March 5 moratorium date, due to the beginning of the endangered birds’ nesting season.
This Saturday, from 9 – Noon, Charlie McCabe of Austin Parks Foundation is leading a work day for invasives removal on the Spyglass Trail. For those who didn’t get enough fun in at our very productive work day on February 5, or who missed that opportunity, here’s your chance. Instructions and tools and high energy camaraderie are provided, plus immediate satisfying feedback on the results of your efforts.
Also, please put Saturday, March 5 on your calendar for Greenbelt Guardians work days at both Homedale and Gus Fruh trails, as part of the city-wide “It’s My Park Day” event organized by Austin Parks Foundation.
