Shuttles will run from Republic Square and Barton Creek Mall to Zilker Park

  • 6:00pm – 9:30pm, inbound to event, and 6:30pm – 11:00pm, outbound from event

NEIGHBORHOOD PATROL:  In addition to APD staffing at the road closure, and interior security, the event was required to hire 2 APD officers to patrol the Zilker/Barton Hills neighborhood area, 2 APD officers to patrol the Lake Austin/Deep Eddy area, and 1 roving officer along Barton Springs Road.

The Parks and Recreation Department will be hosting the 46the Zilker Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony on December 2, 6:00 pm.  Pre-event music starts at 5:30 pm.  NO road closures are associated with the tree lighting ceremony.

Zilker Great Lawn

Post 2008, the Parks and Recreation Department created a new model for fencing to open a majority of the Great Lawn for public use during Trail of Lights season.  In prior years, fencing ran from the volleyball courts, along Stratford Road, along Barton Springs Road to Robert E. Lee and into the east side of the park.

The attached map shows the area of the Zilker Great Lawn required to be open (and will remain open) throughout the ENTIRE duration of the Trail of Lights nights for pedestrian access.  This new model was implemented to open a large portion of the Great Lawn throughout the holiday season.  There is full pedestrian access during normal park hours.

Area within the blue and red – closed until post event for Trail of Lights.
Area within the red blue and yellow, closed from Nov 19 until post event for Trail of Lights.

Barton Hills Community Park – The Natural Heart of our Hood

On November 5, 2012, the recently formed BHNA Committee dedicated to Neighborhood park improvements submitted a Master Plan document to the City of Austin for consideration and approval. This reflects a year’s worth of community input and engagement, as well as the technical and professional expertise of many Barton Hill neighbors. Read more here to learn about the vision, public process, and action plans associated with this long-term process to enhance our treasured park.
