Greenbelt Guardians Workday Sept. 27

Greenbelt Guardians logo
Greenbelt Fans,

We will have the opportunity to tend to our adopted Homedale trail area of the Greenbelt this coming Saturday, 9-27, starting at 8:30 am and working until noon.

We will be working in teams, from the entry trail head, to the rock flats and creek beds, and along a wooded auxiliary trail. Our focus will be on trail maintenance and repair, invasives management, and trash clean-up.

As is the tradition, the Barton Hills Neighborhood Association helps energize our work by funding tacos, and we provide team leaders and tools to execute the work. We hope to see lots of our neighbors out on the trail working with us! To register, go to the website www.austinparks.org/ and click on the tab for Public Lands Day.

Remember to wear closed toed shoes, long pants, bring a water bottle, and dress appropriately for the weather. We will provide tools, gloves, and water, but if you have favorite work gloves or tools, please bring them too.

In case of rain, projects will start one hour late. If rain persists, projects will begin at their original start time on Sunday.

Hope to see you on the trail!

UPCOMING GREENBELT GUARDIANS WORK DAY at GUS FRUH
2642 Barton Hills Drive
Saturday, June 7, 8:00-Noon

Please join us for another Greenbelt Guardians work day on Barton Creek. To celebrate National Trails Day, we will be working on the Gus Fruh trail, from 8 am to Noon. We plan to repair areas damaged by the heavy rains on the switchback trail, replace the old split-rail fence at the entry, and continue the work on the retaining wall and steps down by the swimming area. We’ll also weed and repair the edging along the entrance area, cut back dead or overgrown branches, and pick up trash. We’re feeling ambitious!

We’ve got tasks for all ages and abilities, team leaders to provide direction, and tools to help with the work. As always, the Barton Hills Neighborhood Association will be providing breakfast tacos to help get us started.

Please sign up on the Austin Parks Foundation website austinparks.org/multi-project-list.html?selection=ntd.html, under Barton Creek Greenbelt, Gus Fruh entrance, Greenbelt Guardians. If you have questions about the work day, contact either Glee or Stan. We look forward to another companionable and productive work day.

Spring has finally arrived, and we are excited to get outside and do some much-needed work on the greenbelt trail. We will be working on the Homedale Trail and across the creek near the Spyglass entry. As always, we will provide tools and team leaders for all of the tasks, and some breakfast tacos to get us off to a good start. We will be working on: 1) trail maintenance and repair, 2) invasives management, 3) construction of a stone retaining wall to support the wooden bridge that floated off of its moorings during a flood, and 4) trash pick-up. We hope lots of you will come out and work with us to care for this very special place in our city.

This work day celebrates the 10th annual It’s My Park Day event sponsored by the Austin Parks Foundation, and volunteers who sign up in advance will receive a specially designed T-shirt for the event, plus a Chipotle gift card and some wildflower seeds. Come celebrate a festive anniversary and do some good work with us! To sign up, go to:
