Friends and Neighbors:

We are in the home stretch for our 26th Annual 4th of July Parade & Celebration. This is the biggest neighborhood event of the year. It is always a blast. A successful parade requires many volunteers.

We need folks to serve on the following committees:

Set up tables at playground and serve cookies and watermelons

Decorations at playground:
String banners around the covered court and fence line.

Parade Route Decorations:
Place American flags near curb the morning of parade.

Parade Sign Up Staff & Judges for Parade Entries:
Work at the parade starting point to sign up participants and judge entries

Sound System:
Bring, set up and maintain sound system during parade and at the school ground in conjunction with generator provider.

Help set up games and supervise one game at the school.

Watermelon Wranglers:
Receive watermelons, maintain in provided tank, pick up donated ice and deliver to school grounds.
Slice watermelons on the morning of parade and serve to the hot and happy participants.

Please let me know what you’d most like to do. It’s such great fun. You’ll love being involved.

Get ready for the July 4 Parade!

The 4th of July Parade is just two weeks away. Let’s all come together to celebrate our country’s birthday in this most Barton Hills demonstration of sheer fun!

Get your cookies and watermelons ready. Decorate your kids, bikes, scooters pets, strollers, wagons, and whatever else you can think of adding to the parade. There will be great prizes and awards.

Line up at 8:30 AM at Barton Hills Market, 1220 Barton Hills Drive. The parade starts at 9 AM to Barton Hills Elementary School Park for after-parade festivities including the Pledge of Allegiance, National Anthem, awards for parade decorations, cookies, watermelon, and games.

Remember it takes all of us to celebrate. If you are not planning on marching in the parade, please come out to the parade route (from the Barton Hills Market to Barton Hills Elementary School) to cheer.

Donations of cookies and watermelons are needed; please bring them to the BHE playground before the parade.
Judges, adults to supervise games, parade sponsors, and helpers for set-up and clean-up are also needed.

If you can volunteer to help in any way please call me or email.

We want YOU!!!!!

July 4 Parade Photos

Chuck Ragland, driver of the classic Mustang pictured above, shared this photo of Parade Queens Melissa Hawthorne and Mary Ann Neely waving symbolic branches of ligustrum and nandina, two invasive species that our Greenbelt Guardians work so diligently to remove to allow native species to thrive in our nearby parkland.

Jennifer Ellen Cook sang the national anthem at the Celebration held on the Barton Hills Elementary playground after the Parade. Check out her pictures from the event here.
