The following information was provided by the City of Austin and C3 Presents to help our neighborhood prepare for the upcoming Austin City Limits Music Festival:

ACL Music Festival will take place over two consecutive weekends: Friday, October 7th through Sunday, October 9th from 10am to 10pm; and Friday, October 14th through Sunday, October 16th from 10 am-10 pm.

The event will significantly affect area traffic conditions and public recreational use of the park during event hours. Neighborhood NO PARKING restrictions are in effect. Signed “no parking areas” are actively enforced only on event days (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday).

Azie Morton (between Barton Hills Drive and Barton Springs Road) will be closed from 11 am to 12 midnight each day of the festival. Barton Springs Road through Zilker Park will be closed starting Thursday at 7 pm until Monday at 6 am, both weekends.

The attached map offers a high-level overview of the scheduled street closures and transportation options for patrons to travel to Zilker Park from outside the surrounding neighborhoods. Please visit the city event page for detailed park access maps.

Barton Springs Pool is open at all times during normal hours. During Festival days parking is protected at the south gate lot off Azie Morton Rd. for pool swimmers. In addition, Auditorium Shores will be open at all times for general and off-leash use.

The Zilker Neighborhood Association joined forces with the Barton Hills and Bouldin Creek Neighborhood Associations as well as the SOS Alliance to produce a report on a new vision for Zilker Park. It proposes restoring a little over 20% or up to up to 75 acres of the park to forests, wetland and prairies, a process known as “rewilding.”

Rewilding will increase biodiversity, reduce erosion, and mitigate the urban heat island while improving the experience for park users. The recommendations support the newly adopted Austin Climate Equity Plan since rewilded areas help mitigate the negative effects of climate change.

The report was released right before the third community session of the City of Austin’s Zilker Vision Planning on October 19, which will focus on Design Alternatives. We urge you to participate in the session and support the ecological restoration of the park. Register here.

You can also leave comments for several weeks after the meeting.
